AFL Masters WA and LiveLighter® Partner to Promote Healthier, More Active Communities Across Western Australia Fri, May 29, 2026 - 11:07 AM
AFL Masters WA and Cancer Council WA’s LiveLighter® program have announced a major new partnership focused on increasing physical activity, strengthening community connection and promoting healthier lifestyles across metropolitan and regional Western Australia.
The partnership brings together one of WA’s largest adult football networks with one of the State’s most recognised public health programs, creating a powerful platform to engage thousands of Western Australians through sport, education and community-based health promotion.
With more than 1,500 participants across 50 metropolitan teams and 22 regional teams, AFL Masters WA provides a unique opportunity to deliver LiveLighter® messaging directly into clubs, carnivals and communities where adults are already engaged, active and socially connected.
The partnership will officially launch this weekend at the AFL Masters WA Albany Country Carnival, providing a major regional platform to showcase the shared commitment of both organisations to healthier and more connected communities.
A Shared Commitment to Health and Participation
AFL Masters WA Chair Christopher Tyson said the partnership highlighted the important role community sport can play in improving long term health outcomes.
“This partnership is about more than football. It is about showing people that it is never too late to get active, reconnect and improve their health,” Mr Tyson said.
“At AFL Masters WA, we see firsthand the impact structured sport has on adults over 35, not just physically, but mentally and socially. People return for the football, but they stay for the routine, the mateship and the sense of belonging.
“That alignment with LiveLighter® made this partnership a very natural fit.”
Mr Tyson said AFL Masters WA’s statewide network created an opportunity to turn health awareness into sustained behavioural change.
“Our clubs provide an environment where adults consistently show up, stay active and remain connected to community. That consistency is where real change happens.”
LiveLighter® to Reach Communities Through Football
LiveLighter® Senior Stakeholder Coordinator, Food and Movement Programs, Jenny Atkins, said AFL Masters WA offered an ideal platform to support healthier lifestyles across WA communities.
“What stood out to us was not only the scale of AFL Masters WA, but the strength of its community connection,” Ms Atkins said.
“This is a network built around helping adults and their communities to stay active, engaged and support each other through sport and social connection.”
“Cancer Council WA’s LiveLighter® program is focused on making healthy living practical and achievable for adults across Western Australia, and AFL Masters WA gives us an outstanding platform to support that work.”
Ms Atkins said the partnership would allow Cancer Council WA through the LiveLighter® program to engage communities in a way that felt authentic and locally relevant.
“This partnership allows us to meet people where they already are, within clubs, teams and communities that already value participation, wellbeing and connection.”
Strong Regional Launch in Albany
The Albany Country Carnival will mark the first official activation of the AFL Masters WA and LiveLighter® partnership, reinforcing the importance of regional engagement in community health promotion.
The partnership will continue to expand through AFL Masters WA events, club networks and regional carnivals, with a focus on encouraging adults to remain active, connected and engaged in healthier lifestyles.
