Welcome! Wed, April 11, 2018 - 10:25 AM

How good is it ? Masters Football is back as we kick off the 2018 season with fixtures all around the state. For some, all the hard work in the offseason to get “fitter” pays off, and for others the chance to catch up with mates over a weekly rehydration session after training becomes the highlight of the week.  As we know, regular exercise or activity has so many positive impacts on health and wellbeing as does being involved in a club environment like a Masters Football club. In times where so many people are under pressure, feel the stress and strain of everyday life it should not be underestimated the power of one of your mates asking  ‘Are you OK' or ‘How’s things?’. If you see someone who is a little off sorts or not their usual self, have the guts to ask them, be a mate and offer some help, it might just be what that person needs.

Remember AFL Masters WA works closely with Beyond Blue and our message in the mental health area is “Reduce the Stigma”.  Should you or your mate need help - Beyond Blue is only a phone call or email away.

For the exciting 2018 season, you will see we have undertaken the massive task of a new player registration system via FootyWeb (SportsTG) and hopefully clubs/teams are getting used to the requirements, but if not please speak with James Hunt for assistance.  It should be getting easier and less work each week. New Bylaws are also in play this year, the most significant change is the use of set penalties for breaches and also the use of the independent Community Football Tribunal – hopefully we don’t need to utilise this service for Masters players as we all play under the motto of “Football for Kicks”.

As always, I would like to extend gratitude to our sponsors new and old, who help to make the season run smoothly, a massive thankyou to the volunteers, both at Board level and Club level who give up so much time to ensure we all get to a have a kick and continue to enjoy the best game in the world. And a special mention to James Hunt, our Board Administrator who puts in many hours in the background and on the phone to ensure the competition runs as smooth as it can.  For all clubs, players, helpers and supporters enjoy what looks like being a great season, get out there and get a kick and I look forward to seeing everyone on the park or in the tent afterwards.
